The machine concept is extremely simple. The workpiece is placed into the machine. A quickly adjustable stop with pneumatic locking centers the workpiece within the machine. After activating a foot switch, the workpiece is pneumatically clamped and automatically fed to the drilling unit (30 m/min). The vertical spindles drill from below, so the resulting chips do not remain on the workpiece as they would with a machining center. The horizontal spindles operate on two sides of the workpiece. The workpiece can be of any length, as it is fed to the drilling unit (X-axis). The drilling spindles are individually or collectively freely programmable and move along the Y-axis. The drilling depth and the horizontal drills are controlled via the Z-axis. Once all drilling operations are completed, the workpiece is either returned to the loading side or, on request, discharged to the outfeed side. Unlike conventional machining centers, where the workpiece is clamped with vacuum and the vacuum clamps must be adjusted to the workpiece size, this step is completely eliminated in the 3-axis controlled point-to-point drilling machine.
