Frueheuf Trailer Corporation LARC XV-71

The abbreviation LARC stands for Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo. This refers to the tailgate of the vehicles, which enabled the military to transport a truck or other military equipment. The XV in LARC denotes the maximum payload: 15 tons.

The vehicles are made of aluminum and have the following (precise) dimensions: 13.71 m in length, 4.41 m in width, and 4.70 m in height. (American measurements: 45 ft x 15 ft x 14 ft).

The original LARC vehicles were equipped with two Cummins 8-cylinder diesel engines, each delivering 300 HP. On land, the vehicles could reach a maximum speed of 48 km/h and, on water, 9.5 knots, which is approximately 18 km/h.

The unladen weight of the vehicle is 22 tons. The maximum permissible weight was 35.5 tons.

The previous owner intended to convert the boats to fully electric drive in order to subsequently organize tours on the Wadden Sea.

Around €200,000 was invested, but the project was not completed.

The diesel engines have been removed and are no longer available.

Battery packs are present and partially installed.
